Noble Humans

Noble - having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals.

To be Noble, is not to be perfect, but to strive for the ideal under the affliction of the entropic universe that is our human nature.

The paintings in this series, focuses on Black & Brown people who make positive contributions to their community and culture, as activists, workers, family, artists, musicians, etc.

Within this series, I am adopting a technique I developed while painting the commission for "Keisha."

The attributes of acrylic, gives rise to a broad variation of color if painted with this technique. There's a long process of curating the surface, followed by a formulaic layering of colors. Colors in paintings, painted in this way, change under the brightness of light. Hue and temperature changes can be created with the simple dimming or brightening of light. Areas of the painting not painted in this way are unaffected by the change of light (only in contrast).

{This series is one of several, that are to be created throughout my life time.}

The motifs and environments that the subjects are composed in, represent a broad narrative.

The halos/sundisks, extends the iconography of the subjects beyond the physical, so that their image can be symbols for the larger community.

Celestial artifacts and earthly artifacts, play descriptive and symbolic roles in the work.
