The work in this series, explores the material-clay as an analog for the human body, referencing the symbolism in creation stories.
The role of the Artist becomes the mind, or nature - an non material influence on the representation of the subject.
The Clay and paint, explore the idea of what the body's is, and its relation to identity.
The Vessels of genitalia can be interpreted as something literal or something transitory.
If their are 2 characters in the work, that, being the clay and the artist. The 3rd character, would be the audience.
How does the audience interpret the work? does the environment and the thoughts of others, define our sexual identity?
Is our sexual identity, a literal translation of what is physically manifested? what is it, to have genitalia made from the same flesh - the same clay? only sculpted with just enough manipulation to make a visual distinction.
Biologically, the sexual organs of either x and y combinations, are the same, but differ in proportion and placement, which gives rise to the various functions.
I hope to explore this paradigm with the audience.
